William Backus was born say 1606 at Yorkshire, England.1 He married Elizabeth (--?--) about 1627 at England.1 William Backus was a apprenticed to William Nutt who trained him as a cutler. He was granted his freedom in 1627 and was admitted as a member of the Cutlers Company in in 1631 at Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.2 He married second Anna Stenton in 1659 at Saybrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut.2 William Backus died before 7 June 1664 at Norwich, New London County, Connecticut.1
