     William B. Walling was born about 1835 at Vermont.2,3,4 He was the son of Benjamin Walling and Dorothy (--?--).1 William B. Walling married Louise Cora Clough, daughter of Reverend Mace Richard Clough and Caroline True Harmon, on 22 November 1857 at Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas, in a ceremony preformed by the brides father.5 William appeared on the 1860 Federal Census, of Mountain City, Arapahoe County, Kansas, enumerated 20 September 1860, Three other unknown men were also enumerated at the same location.6 He was a lumber dealer on 11 June 1870 at Central City, Gilpin County, Colorado.7,8 William and Louise appeared on the 1870 Federal Census, of Central City enumerated 11 June 1870. Their children Fredrick A., Burt, Edward and May were listed as living with them.9

The 1860 census for Mountain City is very confusing. William Walling, Wilbur Clough, and Louise (Clough) Walling all appear in different dwellings with other unrelated people. My only guess is that the enumerator visited work places on this day, which was a Thursday, and listed the people he found there.
