Death Of John M. Dearhamer

The death of John M. Dearhamer occurred at the family residence Monday afternoon, December 5, at 8:30 o'clock, after an illness of six months from a complication of diseases. Everything possible was done for his relief. He had been in Luther Hospital, St.Paul, and in Exelsior Springs, Mo., for treatment, and had been under the care of city physicians, but to no avail. The funeral will occur tomorrow, Thursday, 2 p. m. from the Baptist church; of which he was an attendant, Rev. A. R. Toothacre officiating. Interment will be in the Oelwein cemetery.

John Dearhamer was, born in Newark township; Wisconsin, March 28, 1849. He came to Independence, Iowa, in 1872 and located on a farm. In 1876 he moved to Harlan township, Fayette county, and purchased a farm. He resided there till 1884 when he located in Fremont township where he continued to reside till 1900 when he sold his farm and purchased property on South Frederick street, Oelwein.

In 1872 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary J. Moulton, and to this union were born ten Children, Anna, deceased. Mrs. Fenda Miller, Mrs. W. J. Gilhooley, of New York, Mrs. C. C. Dudley, of Beloit, Wisconsin, William C., Mrs. Hattie Lenius, Charles C., John Leroy, Mrs. C. A. Kelley, and Fred, deceased. Mrs. Dearhammer died September 21. 1901. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and had a large circle of friends who knew him to be a genial acquaintance. He was a member of the M. B. A. and the Yoeman, and carried insurance on his life to the amount of $6,000. Besides his sons and daughters he l eaves five brothers and two sisters to mourn his loss. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family in his death.


John died 5 Dec. 1904, the date for May's death is incorrect, the actual date was 21 September 1891.
